Intertops.com open book on 2008 Olympics already
9 Sep 2004
Intertops.com, a site becoming renowned for its unusual betting options offered, is opening yet another unusual book. Inspired by the interest in this year’s Olympics, Intertops is already taking bets on how the Chinese team will perform in 2008 when the Olympics will be held in their own country. The Olympics will take place in Beijing, a fact which Intertops is predicting will be very much in their favour at the next games.
It’s a long term bet for interested punters, but at the moment Intertops are inviting wagers predicting whether China will end up in first place at the Beijing Olympics. At the moment those who vote yes are being offered odds at 10/13, and a no wager is listed at 10/11. Intertops has looked at the performance of the Chinese team this year, both in terms of the Olympics and in the world championships, and decided that the close competition between them and the Olympic winners the United States, has set in place the criteria for an interesting and close run betting contest.
China placed second in the Athens Olympics, only three gold medals behind the US in the final medal tally. In the world championships in athletics they have had an extraordinary performance, winning 1317 events and setting 1026 world records. They also cite the huge population, and high concentration of young people (around 400 million), in conjunction with their obvious progress in recent years in sports, to set the tome of a tough battle commencing between themselves and the US for victory in the Olympics.
