Bookies Pay Out on Campbell’s No Goal
27 Jun 2004
William Hill has announced it is paying out to anyone who put money on Sol Campbell scoring against Portugal on Thursday night. England, who were finally beaten on penalties, appeared to be legitimate winners two minutes from time when Campbell headed over the line, only to have victory snatched away from them by a baffling refereeing decision. 'Like virtually every England fan and neutral observer we were convinced that Campbell's goal was perfectly legitimate, so we have decided to make our feelings public by paying out to every punter who took our odds of 8/1 that Campbell would score, and those who bet on him at 33/1 to score the last goal of the game.' said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe. ‘Obviously we will also still pay out to everyone who bet on the 'official' result of the game.' There will be some bookmakers who will be breathing a sigh of relief at England’s defeat. Ladbrokes spokesman Warren Lush said: 'We have escaped a world record payout on England winning the tournament and made big money on the gamble but as fans and businessmen we wanted to see England march on as we've never seen interest so big.' source:- http://www.onlinecasinonews.com
