WSOP hands out $16,767,212 in 7 days

The biggest prize of this year’s WSOP came, surprisingly, in the event with the smallest number of competitors. The 145 entrants in the $5,000 with rebuys Pot-Limit Omaha tournament managed to clock up an incredible 421 rebuys, meaning Burt Boutin took home $825,956 for first place.

We have already seen a number of records broken this year, with Event #3, the $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em tournament cracking the record for the biggest ever poker tournament outside of the WSOP championship event. 2,998 players turned up for their crack at WSOP history, with Ciaran O’Leary, a US based Irishman, taking home the $727,150 top prize.

And the first record was broken in the very first event of this year’s World Series, when Steve Bilirakis became the youngest ever winner of a WSOP bracelet aged just 21 years and ten days old.

With only nine events played out of the schedule fifty five, we can expect a lot more broken records, and a LOT more money changing hands!
