Wrong Side of the Bars
Theresa Marie Ford, 42, used to handle inmates money as part of her job, but began to steal the money in order to finance her gambling habit. It took her just a few months to steal the $120,000 according to Sheriff Don Gudmunson. The money she stole is used by inmates to pay jail fees owed for housing, health care and other services, in addition to phone calls and canteen purchases.
Ford admitted to stealing the money and said it got out of control, with her losing count of how much she had taken. But if she wasn’t sure how much she took, Sheriff Gudmunson was most certainly sure where it all went: “Every dime went to Mystic Lake Casino,” he said.
She was held on $50,000 cash bail, or – if she did not gamble or enter a casino - $15,000 cash.
