UK Gambling law may damage sponsorship deals
According to a report in Friday’s Guardian newspaper, MP’s are worried that clubs have bypassed gambling laws aimed at protecting children. Under such laws it is illegal for gambling operators to target children with advertising and fines for doing so are set to be increased in September.
With Premier League football teams Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur both having signed multi-million pound deals with online gambling firms the investigation could have serious consequences for both the clubs and their sponsors, and could even result in cancellation of the sponsorship deals.
