UK Casino advisers accused of favouritism

It recently transpired that the Casino Advisory Panel wrote directly to a particular council to gauge their interest in hosting the vast Las-Vegas style casino. Only one such casino will be allowed under new UK gambling laws set out in the Gambling Act 2005.

This news has angered Glasgow and Cardiff city councils, who claim to have received no such letter.

The letter, which was sent to Blackpool city council four months before the March 2006 closing date for applications, was only discovered after the Welsh shadow culture minister Owen Thomas used the freedom of information act.

Councils staging rival bids for the project now fear Blackpool has become the favourite.
