Two more UK towns earmarked for casinos
Stranraer and Gretna, in Dumfries and Galloway, are to be put forward for two of the 17 casino licenses the UK government will issue across Scotland, England and Wales under the Gambling Act 2005.
Although the area has a small population, just 147,000, the local licensing board argues that regeneration plans and transport links mean the towns would be able to host small casinos.
In addition it claims the ferry links between Stranraer and Northern Ireland will ensure the casinos success.
