Swansea Council considers casino application

The plan is backed by the deputy leader of Swansea Council, Gerald Clement, who is on record saying that a casino could bring “huge” economic benefits to Swansea:

“I think it would be a huge economic driver for the city; it's generally recognised Swansea is regenerating itself.”

Clement openly acknowledged that the casino will not be backed by all residents of Swansea, and the idea has already come under fire from the Salvation Army, who are concerned about the effects a casino might have on local families.

But he went on to say that despite the moral issues surrounding the casino, it would be important for Swansea’s future:

“I think it would drive Swansea's tourist industry and that is what we are going to be more and more dependent on,” he said.

The council has not yet decided on the size of the casino it will bid for, if it bids at all.
