Smoking ban could cost Ontario casino’s C$500 million a year
That is the conclusion of a study commissioned by the Ontario Ministry for Economic Development, which was only made public after a freedom of information request by a smokers lobby group.
Already a government study has shown that where a smoking ban was implemented in a charity casino in Brantford, the casino suffered a 20 percent decline in revenue.
According to the report: “casino patrons decreased their playing time and/or spending while at the casino.”
And now other casino’s and smokers groups are worried about the effect of a blanket ban on smoking across Ontario.
“People in Detroit are ecstatic,” said Diagneault, head of the smokers lobby group MyChoice, “because its good for their casinos.”
