Russian government steps in to clarify casino licensing rules
The government recently appointed federal tax authorities to be in charge of issuing gaming licenses.
Since January, when the State Sports Committee was disbanded, no gambling licenses have been issued. This is because the successor to the State Sports Committee – the Federal Agency for Culture, Sports and Tourism was not given powers to do so.
With the slots machine market alone worth an estimated $3.5 billion the lack of a body with powers to grant licenses was costing the industry vast sums of money. Hence the relief that the issue has now been resolved.
