Rod Stewart loses casino gamble
Stewart has been involved in a court dispute for a number of years now, after the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas took him to court for failing to repay an advance.
The dispute started when Rod Stewart cancelled a Millennium New Year’s Eve gig because he was not fully recovered from throat surgery he had had a few months earlier. But in what appears to have proved to be a failed gamble, Stewart elected to hold on the advance paid to him by the Rio.
This obviously didn’t sit too well with the casino, who demanded repayment, which was not forthcoming. The Rio then decided to pursue the matter through the courts, and now that decision appears to have been vindicated. The federal judge ruled in the casino’s favour, ordering Stewart to pay $2.9 million to the casino, along with 150,000 in legal fines to the court.
