Records tumbling at 2006 World Series of Poker
The second event of the 2006 WSOP, the first open event of the championship, drew an incredible 2776 players, the second largest field in the history of poker and finished with Brandon Cantu winning $757,839 from just a $1500 investment.
The trend has continued throughout all events, with prize money for regulation events often exceeding the prize money for past WSOP main-events.
So far the biggest win belongs to Jeff Cabanillas, whose win in the $5000 NL Hold’em event netted him $818,546. But the big wins are only just about to start. The $50,000 buy-in (yes that’s right $50,000) HORSE event starts tomorrow, sure to make someone a millionaire (or just a million richer).
