Records tumble as Nevada Casinos bring in the cash
Net income for the states 268 major casino companies was a staggering $1.8 billion - from a total revenue figure of $21.4 billion. That smashed the nine year record of $1.35 billion dating back to 1996.
One of the major reasons for the success was a 12 percent increase in room revenue, due to higher prices and an extra 4000 available rooms.
Unsurprisingly the major income came from Las Vegas in Clark County, with the $1.7 billion net income there accounting for 93 percent of the state total. The Strip generated $1.2 billion of that figure – its highest ever and a 12 percent increase on the 2004 figure.
According to Frank Streshley a senior analyst behind the report, the increased revenues from The Strip were in large part down to the opening of the 2,700 room Wynn Las Vegas, as well as an extension to the Bellagio that opened in December 2004.
And according to Streshley the signs for 2006 look good: “It’s difficult to make predictions but it seems we’re on the same growth pace.”
