Professional gambler demands $150,000 in lawsuit
Grosjean has requested that the Supreme Court order the Imperial Palace to pay him $150,000 in compensation for handcuffing and searching him back in February 2001. Furthermore he is asking the courts permission to sue the state for the involvement of two gaming agents.
Having already won a jury award in the case Grosjean clearly has justice on his side, the question is to what extent. Recently a judge lowered the judgement of the jury, so Grosjean’s appeal will be heard before a panel of the Nevada Supreme Court on Tuesday.
According to Grosjean’s lawyers the $150,000 they are asking for is “chump change” to the Imperial Palace, although obviously not in the opinion of those in charge at the Palace, who are requesting that the case be thrown out, arguing that their officers were acting on behalf of the state and therefore share immunity with the state.
Allegedly what happened was that on the 28th February, 2001, Grosjean and a friend were being watched by state gaming agents in Harrah’s, when the agents lost sight of the pair. An agent then called the Imperial Palace, where security officers stopped and handcuffed Grosjean; he was then taken to a room and searched. According to the Imperial Palace a state agent directed them to detain Grosjean; the states disputes this point.
