Sportingbet lost over $250 million in the immediate aftermath of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, and McIver claims the UK government was nowhere to be seen during that desperate time, saying: “We are disappointed with the lack of support the industry has received from the UK government prior to the enactment of the UIGEA.”

But McIver was also keen to stress that despite the $252 million “exceptional charge” that the company was faced with after the UIGEA, Sportingbet has bounced back and made great progress in the financial quarter.
