Nevada casino’s win big in July
The Las Vegas Strip was the main beneficiary, with over half the $1.04 billion being taken in by casinos on that famous stretch of tarmac. The $531.7 million figure for the Strip is a ten percent increase on 2005.
As usual slot machines were the most successful games for the casinos, taking $698 million in July, nearly 70 percent of the total figure. Live games accounted for $349 million, with $120 million form blackjack, $41 million from craps, 28.2 million on roulette and 16.9 million from poker. Poker was the biggest mover, up 24.4 percent on 2005.
The unexpectedly strong figures were attributed in part to July 4th falling on a Tuesday, which created a four-day break for many tourists.
