NEC Chooses MGM for Birmingham Casino Partnership
The joint venture will have fierce competition from the Birmingham FC-Las Vegas Sands Corp partnership, which has had its proposals on the table for considerably longer. Both are fighting for the city council’s recommendation that they receive a gaming license.
The announcement of the NEC’s partnership with MGM Mirage comes just a few days after an NEC member criticised the exhibition centre for being slow to puts its proposals for the casino on the table. With only one such ‘super casino’ permitted, the NEC was seriously risking its chances of winning the bid for the lucrative development, said Ken Hardman.
A spokesman for MGM, Lloyd Nathan, said the development promised to redefine the gaming experience for Britons.
“We believe the NEC site provides an excellent location and with our unparalleled experience, this joint proposal anticipates creating a showpiece architectural statement combining not just gaming, but also exciting, new entertainment and dining experiences,” said Nathan.
The casino will be called “MGM Grand at The NEC”.
