More US Sportsbetting busts
The Philadelphia Inquirer detailed the arrest of a Gloucester County man who admitted taking bets for a multimillion-dollar sports gambling ring. He claimed the ring was run by a former state trooper and allegedly involved the former Philadelphia Flyers star Rick Tocchet.
James Andrew Ulmer (41) of Swedesboro, pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and promoting gambling. He has agreed to cooperate fully with the state in its investigation.
The prosecution said that in August this year, former State Trooper James Harney from of Mount Laurel, pleaded guilty to conspiracy, promoting gambling and official misconduct. Harney said that Tocchet took wagers from bettors and covered losses. When bettors lost, Tocchet would apparently be given a "bag of cash" for his share of the profits.
Tocchet, has been charged with promoting gambling, money laundering and conspiracy.
Meanwhile Carmen Salvatore DiNunzio, known as "The Big Cheese," was indicted by an Essex County grand jury last week on illegal gambling and extortion charges.
He faces the Court again on January 22 next year.
