Little wins big in Mirage Poker Showdown
Little had made a World Poker Tour final table before, finishing fifth in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January this year, but this was the step up he dreamed of.
Little faced a tough final table that included Phil Ivey, nicknamed “the Tiger Woods of poker” and widely regarded as the best poker player in the world today. Ivey was playing on his sixth WPT final table and began the day with the chip lead, making him the bookies clear favourite to take down the title.
But that wasn’t accounting for Little, who knocked out Ivey on the 55th hand when he caught a full house on the river to beat Ivey’s flush. Little found himself in trouble later on but a series of double ups helped him to make it to the final two. There he was outplayed by Cory Carroll but got lucky in two key hands to first take the chip lead and then seal the tournament. On the winning hand his A-2 was well beat by Carroll’s A-7 but two two’s hit the board to gift Little the title and the $1,066,295 first prize.
