Last Chance Saloon For World Series of Poker Europe 2010 Qualifiers

The deadline for qualification for the World Series of Poker Europe looms, with only three more dates for the Main Event available through Betfair Casino.

The online gaming giant has been continuing its association the WSOPE for the fourth year running by hosting satellite tournaments through its online casino pages, while also offering direct buy-in seats.

The tournament takes place at the Casino at the Empire in Leicester Square, London, which hosts the six major events that begin on Tuesday 14th September 2010 with the 6-Handed No Limit Hold 'Em 3-day event. The real draw of the tournament, the Main Event, begins on Thursday 23rd September and has a straight buy-in of £10,350.

However, Betfair are providing Satellite tournaments right up until the 22nd September when the last sees a £750 freeze-out just a single day before the Main Event begins and after some of the other shorter events have finished.

With at least one guaranteed qualification place per satellite, competition is rife with amateurs eager to take one of limited places at tables that will include poker legends such as Phil Ivey, Gus Hansen and John Juanda. With a smaller starting field, amateur players are highly likely to be faced with the top names in world poker at the first hurdle.

Perhaps as a direct result of the allure of world-class poker, Betfair has witnessed record numbers of amateur applicants for its WSOPE satellite tournaments. It is yet another signal that online poker continues to go from strength to strength in Europe, with a 2009 survey revealing that the United Kingdom has the second largest regular online poker base at around 1.9million, behind 10million regulars in the USA. European countries followed, with Germany next on 1.6million and France having 1.3million regulars. The countries that make up Scandinavia cemented the popularity of the game in Europe with a further 1.34million regulars.

Now in its fourth year in London, the WSOPE is fast becoming one of the most hotly anticipated in the poker calendar, with ten hours of coverage used by ESPN in their WSOP 2009 footage.
