Kentucky man claims Caesars got him drunk to lose money

Jimmy L. Vance, who says he has lost over $500,000 in total at Caesars, claims the casino’s employees deliberately got him drunk before offering him $75,000 in credit, every penny of which he had lost within a few hours.

“They kept serving me until I was completely intoxicated,” said Vance. “In fact I don’t remember losing the money.”

Caesar’s is not feeling charitable however, and is suing Vance for much more than the $75,000 he lost. The casino is asking for treble damages ($225,000) plus 18 percent interest, legal fees and court costs. The real figure could be closer to the $500,000 mark.

And Gregory Taylor, Caesars’ lawyer, noted that Vance’s claim was not unique: “Vance is certainly not the first unsuccessful gambler to want his money back,” he said.

He went on to point out that many drunken gamblers win big, while sober gamblers often lose fortunes, noting that it would be difficult to pinpoint Vance’s intoxication as the cause of his losses.

The omens are not good for Vance, who is counter-suing the casino. Since last year Caesars has filed almost identical suits against over 17 other gamblers. They have already received payments or judgements in ten of those cases, with the other seven still pending.
