House of Representatives approves online gambling ban
Using the disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff as leverage Republican Bob Goodlatte, the driving force behind the bill, argued that the legislation could help “purge the smear on Congress” left by Abramoff.
Abramoff had lobbied against the bill on behalf of an online lottery company, although the new version of the bill exempts online lotteries.
However the bill is seen by many Americans as a threat to their freedom and a challenge to the constitution. An estimated 70 million Americans play poker with almost half of those also playing online.
Fortunately for them experts predict the bill will struggle to pass the Senate.
