Green light for Glasgow casino
The Thistle Hotel in Cambridge Street, a four-star property, plans to turn part of the ground floor of the building into one of the biggest gaming clubs in the UK.
The Thistle Hotel’s ballroom is the largest ballroom in Scotland, and the resultant casino will be two-thirds the size of a football pitch according to reports. The casino will have all the usual gaming tables, such as blackjack, roulette and poker as well as slot machines paying huge jackpots.
The refurbishment of the ballroom, which currently has a capacity of 1500, is part of a general refurbishment project for the hotel, which has spent over £1 million already in the past year.
The hotel’s new bosses are believed to be trying to take advantage of the city’s new ‘Glas-Vegas’ image; already there have been two separate bids lodged in Glasgow to host the UK’s first ever Las Vegas style super-casino, and if successful many believe Galsgow could become one of the UK’s most popular tourist destinations.
