Glasgow heads race for UK ‘super casino’
According to Scotland’s The Herald newspaper Glasgow is understood to have been short listed as a suitable location for the casino. That means the city will now battle against Blackpool, Manchester and London’s Millennium Dome to win backing from the government for its proposal.
Currently, under the Gambling Act 2005, only one Las Vegas style ‘super casino’ is allowed in the UK, along with 8 large and 8 small new casinos. Glasgow is the centre of two bids: one from Glasgow Rangers Football club, and one from harbour developers Peel Ports, who are working in conjunction with American casino operators MGM Mirage.
Both bids envisage casinos with thousands of slot machines and hundreds of gaming tables like poker, roulette, craps, and so forth.
