German hearts fluttering as online betting increases
Last year German punters spent €3.3 billion gambling and betting online, an increase of 35 percent on 2004, according to the study conducted by the consultancy firm Goldmedia.
The study also showed that their neighbours in Austria spent €1.3 billion on online gaming, which equates to €177 per person – more than four times as much as the Germans.
According to the survey the limited number of legal outlets for gambling in Germany has led to the exceptional interest in online gambling, mostly on foreign based gambling sites.
