According to a Finance Ministry spokesperson: “(Czechoslovakians ) spent a record CZK 50 billion ($211,147,340) on gambling machines last year, which equates to an annual growth of 4.5 percent, and the number of machines has increased from 2438 to 52,185.”

The Czech authorities have seen an immediate return, taking CZK 3.2 billion in fees and licenses from gambling machine operators.
