FBI freezes US NETeller accounts
NETeller had already banned US customers from using its services, but now the FBI has frozen these accounts for use as evidence in their case against John Lefebvre and Stephen Lawrence, the two Canadians who founded NETeller but stepped down as executive directors last year. They are being charged with money laundering and promoting illegal gambling.
Initially when NETeller pulled out of the US market it issued a statement saying “the funds of U.S. resident customers are held in segregated trust accounts and will be available for withdrawal for customers on demand”.
Now it appears that is no longer the case. NETeller has not yet disclosed how many accounts have been frozen or how much money it amounts to.
