EU Gambling Has Its Problems

Lawmakers across the UK have been actively discussing the current gambling laws. There were plenty of varying viewpoints in regards to the EU gambling laws, the biggest surprise came when Tobias Ellwood called the European Union’s online gambling system “very much flawed.”

Ellwood’s major criticism came when the discussion regarding monopolies was brought up. It has been noted that the EU allows some online casinos to operate as a monopoly while there are those who operate well within the outlined constraints. There is no consistency amongst the online gambling world in regards to those who do not operate legally are not penalized.

However, there were some positives to come out of the meeting. Several ministers praised online casinos, such as Betfair for operating fairly. Sports Minister Sutcliffe defended the online gambling act, noting that all aspects of Internet gambling need to be addressed and dealt with.

One area Sutcliffe made a point about was educating the population pertaining to the dangers of online gambling. Citizens need to be aware of the problems with over gambling and the appropriate organizations and outlets should gambling consume and control one’s life.
