Camelot, the company that operates the lottery, said that various people from Doncaster – where records show the winning ticket was purchased – came forward claiming to have purchased the ticket and lost it, but that in no case was there evidence to support their claims.

The unclaimed £9.4 million is the largest unclaimed sum in the history of the UK National Lottery.
