Birmingham casino plans trump the Ricoh

Officials at the NEC have claimed that if their bid is successful the resultant casino will create twice as many jobs as rival bids. In tandem with Las Vegas’s MGM Mirage casino company, NEC spokespeople said their proposal “Outguns the Ricoh Arena on almost every count”.

The timing of the remarks is no accident, with the government’s casino advisory panel starting deliberations on the casino licenses any day now. They will have to choose one town or city from 27 to host the UK’s first ever Las Vegas style ‘super casino’.

Back in Coventry the city council leader Ken Taylor said simply that he wanted to focus on persuading the government to change the number of super casinos permitted under the pilot scheme. He is hoping they will go back to the eight casinos that were sanctioned for under the original draft.
