The gagging order came to light after The Birmingham Post requested details of the proposal and was turned down. It is thought the casino will be built on land owned by Birmingham City Football Club, but of course details of the arrangement – involving the football club, the council and Las Vegas Sands – a casino operator – are not available. A request involving The Freedom of Information Act was also refused.

The casino is one of many ‘super-casinos’ planned in the UK since the relaxation of the gambling laws earlier this year.
