Competition from higher stakes games and the ban on smoking proved a difficult obstacle for bingo to overcome, but difficult is not the same as impossible, and the game has survived.

In particular bingo as a fundraiser for church groups and volunteer organinsations has continued to prosper, with one church group bringing in $180,000 a year for a local school through bingo.
