Big names pitch up for High Stakes Poker season 3
A raft of new faces have been drafted in to join such veterans from the earlier shows as Jennifer Harman, Daniel Negreanu and Mike Matusow, with the biggest draw being the 2006 WSOP champion Jamie Gold. It would seem this is his chance to prove to his detractors that he has the skill, and not just the luck, to sit with the very best.
The format of High Stakes Poker, for those that don’t already know, is as follows: the game is No-Limit Texas Hold’em with a minimum $100,000 buy-in. The stakes are $300-$600 with a $100 rolling ante and there is absolutely no upper limit to the amount players may bring to the poker table (in Season One Daniel Negreanu took full advantage of this and sat down with $1 million!)
Season 3 has a more youthful look than the first two seasons, with the addition of Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey and Paul Wasicka (the runner up in the 2006 WSOP) to the roster of stars from previous shows. Commentator Gabe Kaplan even tries his hand at the felt.
According to Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu, who described HSP Season 3 in his blog, the new players have greatly increased the difficulty of the game, with Patrik Antonius cited as a particularly tricky opponent. That means we should be in for some truly gripping poker, make sure your tuned in!
