Beginners Guide to Casinos
How do online casinos work?
The first thing you should know is that online casinos operate in a very similar way to regular casinos. You deposit your stake money from your credit card and they use random number generators to give the outcome of the casino games. If you win, they pay your winnings to you, either back to your credit card or send you a cheque.
Are online casinos safe?
The casinos on this site have all been checked by us and are guaranteed safe to play. Most casino pay out rates are monitored by PriceWaterHouseCoopers, the world's largest accountancy firm. All transactions made to them are secure so you can deposit money with confidence
Where are the online casinos based?
Although some casinos have UK offices, all online casino transactions are completed on offshore servers, usually under the jurisdictions of Canada or Gibraltar although there are others. This is purely a commercial restriction for online casinos and no longer a tax break. It is purely due to the fact that there is no updated law allowing online casinos to operate in the UK.
Is online gambling legal?
Yes. There has been no law passed in the UK to date that states its illegal. The UK government is perfectly aware of online gambling.
Are online casinos fair?.. Could they cheat?
All the online casinos featured at CasinoChoice are fair, if they were found cheating, they would have their license revoked. It is also in their interest to be fair in order to retain their user base. They all use random number generators for their results.
Credit or Debit Cards?
All casinos will allow you to play for fun (no money). The casino odds are identical whether you play for fun or real money. When depositing, you can use a credit or debit card although we would recommend using debit. This is purely because its easier for the casinos to process, and they can pay winnings back to debit cards in some cases as opposed to a cheque. Some casinos such as 32Red offer better bonuses for debit card users.
Bonuses
All casinos offer a 'free money' incentive to join the casino. In the UK, these are usually in pounds sterling and although there are terms and conditions applied, they mean what they say. When selecting a bonus, please find out whether its an instant bonus or delayed. Some casinos pay you straight away whilst others will pay you within 24 Hours. All bonuses require a turn, for example £25 bonus with a 20 times turn means you have to wager £500 through the casino before withdrawing. Although this sounds a lot, it actually isn't as transactions occur as you go up and down against the dealer.
Games
In the early stages, stick to what you know. Find a simple game such as Blackjack or slots and obtain a feel for the casino, the payment mechanisms and the technical support team. Try other games for fun, figure them out, read our game guides and then try other games. Its often more fun playing new games as your never quite sure what's going to happen, but at least understand the rules.
