A mobile casino player has landed a jackpot of more than £3.7m, believed to be the largest of its kind across the online gambling industry to date.
The pay-out of £3,744,513 on Microgaming’s networked Mega Moolah progressive jackpot slot was hit by a mobile player at the Spin Palace online casino, with game developer Microgaming describing the win as “the largest mobile jackpot win in history.”
The £3.7m win smashes the previous record of £1.4m set in August by a 50-year-old slots player on his iPhone at PartyCasino.
Microgaming CEO Roger Raatgever called the win “staggering” and said the win would be paid out to the player, only named as Gabriel L, in one single payment.
Spin Palace casino manager Debbie Taylor said her team were “thrilled” for Gabriel L, whom she described as a “loyal player.”
This latest record pay-out follows Mega Moolah creating the first mobile slots millionaire back in May, with the £1m-plus jackpot being triggered the same week.
Mobile slots pay-outs have increased rapidly of late alongside what William Hill boss Ralph Topping recently called the “discernable” shift to mobile gaming”, echoing the pattern followed by sports betting.
The new record mobile pay-out still however lags a considerable way behind the record desktop payout of €17,860,368, won by a “middle-aged” man from Helsinki playing Net Entertainment’s networked Mega Fortune slot at Paf.com in January of this year.
Microgaming’s library of HTML5-based slots grew to 37 last week with three new titles launching with Microgaming licensees, Pure Platinum, 5 Reel Drive and Couch Potato.
