Betfair launches first-ever bingo room

Betfair has launched its first-ever online bingo room, on the Playtech-owned Virtue Fusion platform.

The new bingo room was confirmed last September as part of an expanded supply agreement between the two companies, which included Betfair launching poker on Playtech’s networks in the ring-fenced markets of Spain and Italy.

Playtech first entered into an agreement to provide a bingo product for Betfair back in June 2009, when it was contracted to develop software for integration into Betfair TV, the operator’s betting application for internet-enabled TVs running the Yahoo! TV Widget Engine.

Playtech went on in February of the following year to acquire the Virtue Fusion bingo software and network for an initial £29m, after limited success in developing its own product capable of competing with those of Virtue Fusion or 888′s Dragonfish.

The betting exchange joins Playtech’s other major sports-led clients with bingo rooms on VF, namely bet365, William Hill, Paddy Power and, more recently, Gala Bingo. The rival Dragonfish network owned by 888 powers Wink, Costa Bingo and the bwin.party-owned Foxy brands, among others.
