The world record-breaking slots pay-out over the weekend has been confirmed at €17,860,368, won by a “middle-aged” man from Helsinki at Paf.com.
The jackpot triggered on Sunday smashes the official world record for an online slot of €11,736,375 set in September 2011, also landed by a player on Stockholm-based provider Net Entertainment’s Mega Fortune progressive jackpot and independently verified by Guinness World Records.
Head press and PR for Paf, Anders Sims, said the gaming world had been “holding its breath” during the autumn and winter as the pooled jackpot continued to grow. Sims described the tax-free win as “completely off the charts”.
Anders Ingves, CEO for the online gaming operator based in the autonomous Åland islands off the coast of Finland, said the company had “strongly” recommended the winner maintain their anonymity and also take a break from playing.
NetEnt CEO Per Eriksson said the company was happy about its “second world record jackpot on online gaming.”
Around 50 sites offer the Mega Fortune slot, including Sportingbet, Unibet, Betsson and BetVictor and Mr Green, with 888 shortly to join their ranks after signing a supply deal with Stockholm-based Net Entertainment.
The UK’s biggest-ever progressive slots jackpot was won by an anonymous Scottish player at Betfred in February last year, scooping £5.1 million on the Playtech-powered Beach Life slots after placing a bet of just £1.
