Paddy Power’s recently appointed head of operations William Reeve is to appear working undercover in the business as part of Channel 4’s Undercover Boss TV series tonight.
Company director Reeve, who will start in the newly created role on 5 September, is filmed working incognito in various departments within the bookmaker’s Irish and UK operations, including its betting shops, online gaming division, telephone betting and customer services divisions, during May.
According to the broadcaster, Reeve experiences “some shocking staff attitudes to punters”, as well as having to deal with Paddy Power staff affected by repeated armed robberies, racial abuse and suicide threats.
The Channel 4 show, franchised around the world since first showing on the terrestrial channel in 2009, sends senior executives undercover in their own businesses to find out how their companies really work on the ground and to identify ways they can be improved, as well as to recognise and reward stand-out employees.
Reeve, who co-founded film and game rental business, was appointed a non-executive director of Paddy Power in May 2010 and confirmed in the operational role by Paddy Power last month.
Reeve will oversee technology, risk & trading and corporate strategy for the bookmaker, previously the responsibility of Paddy Power’s highly rated former chief operating officer Breon Corcoran, who starts as Betfair CEO in August.
The programme airs tonight from 9pm on Channel 4.
