Betfair launches Euro 2012 iPhone app

Betfair has launched an iPhone app specificially for the Euro 2012 football championships.

The betting exchange operator’s Euro Finals from Betfair app, now downloadable from Apple’s app store, uses a Euro 2012 fixture list as the landing page with betting markets just one tap away.

All the editorial and statistic content has been optimised for the iPhone across seven languages, another first for the award-winning mobile operator which beat Tabcorp and Paddy Power to the punch by launching the first real-money gambling app cleared by Apple for download from its app store back in August 2010.

Betfair’s head of central online marketing, Ben Carter, said: “Euro 2012 is going to be the ‘Mobile Euros’ and we wanted to make sure that our customers can get their bets on throughout the tournament wherever they are and whatever they are doing.”

The app can also be shared via email, SMS and Twitter and punters will be able to place Euro 2012 multiples bets and use the Cash Out feature to lock in a profit or minimise losses. As well as English, the app is available in Russian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Swedish and Danish.

Betfair also confirmed yesterday that it remains on track to launch its long-awaited fixed-odds sports betting platform ahead of next month’s European Football Championships, as it looks to capture the 30% of the sportsbook wallet its 900,000 active customers currently spend elsewhere due to its inability to offer a full range of ante-post and in-play bets using its core betting exchange.

Euro 2012, which kicks off in Ukraine and Poland on 8 June, is the most eagerly awaited betting event of the year for European-facing sportsbooks, with the Olympics attracting comparatively little betting action.
