Microgaming Bad Beat Jackpot pays out over €400,000

Players on the Microgaming Poker Network (MPN) have won more than €400,000 after the network’s Bad Beat Jackpot was hit last week.

According to the Isle of Man-based software provider, which powers the poker rooms of leading UK online casinos such as 32Red and Ladbrokes, six players shared €439,289.83 after the jackpot was hit on Monday 19 March when a player at Nordic Bet with a usually unbeatable hand of four-of-a-kind aces lost to a straight flush.

Bad beat jackpots are paid out on the rare occasion when a player with a very strong hand, a minimum of four eights or higher using both hole-cards, is beaten by an even stronger hand.

The Danish player under the alias of Gaboork_jai won a cool €219,645 with the rest of the prize fund being divided among the other five players at the table. The pay-put is the largest Bad Beat Jackpot won to date on the MPN, said Microgaming.

Gaboork_jai said he was “still in shock” at the amount of money he had won, revealing he would spend some of the money on fulfilling a long-held dream of visiting the US Mecca of gambling, Las Vegas.

Head of poker for Nordic Bet brand owner Nordic Gaming Group, Anders Karlsen, said the company was  delighted that players at its poker room had struck the jackpot, adding that the possibility of winning “huge prizes in a fun atmosphere” was “great for recreational players.”

Microgaming’s head of network games Lydia Melton added that because 20% of the jackpot was used to seed the next jackpot, €130,000 had already rolled over and was available to play for.

The network memorably paid out the Bad Beat Jackpot twice in 24 hours early last year, after this rose to $558,296.27, paying out a total of $470,792 to 10 players.

Microgaming also this morning announced the launch of a three new downloadable casino games, available from casinos such as 32Red. These include Multi-Player Roulette Diamond Edition, with 3D graphics and controllable spin speed;  “nuclear-powerered” five-reel, nine pay-line video slot Power Spins – Nuclear 9s; and Rhyming Reels – Old King Cole, a new addition to Microgaming’s range of Rhyming Reels series of slots, offering  five reels and 20 pay-lines.
