An online betting website in Denmark has been left red-faced after it was forced by the regulator to return funds to a player it was withholding until the player apologised for being rude.
Unibet was forced to back down after the Danish Gambling Authority (DGA) wielded the letter of the new country’s newly enacted online gambling law on the player’s behalf. This followed Unibet closing down the player’s account following their consistent criticism of their customer services, and then freezing the outstanding balance on the account until an apology was issued to a member of their team.
According to an email published by the player on the Pokernet.dk forum, Unibet Support told the player that: “Your recent email to Unibet is extremely inappropriate, especially your comments about Casper…We do not allow you to treat Unibet employees in this way. Therefore, your account has been closed and will only be reopened when you submit a well-meaning apology to Casper.”
While the player in question admitted to “having gone over the line a few times” in the manner of his criticism of the Unibet customer service team, he still refused to apologise and instead turned to the Danish Gambling Authority. The DGA informed the player yesterday that it is was in the rules that when closing a gaming account, the operator had to transfer any outstanding balance from the player’s game account to the player within five working days, and that it had now been assured by Unibet that the player would receive the balance as soon as possible.
