Gala Bingo adds PayPal as payment option

UK online bingo site Gala Bingo.com has added PayPal as a payment option for its customers.

Players will be able to log into their PayPal accounts securely via the bingo website from 1 March, allowing them to deposit bets and collect winnings via the payments wallet.

Matt Prevost, marketing director of GalaBingo.com said: “We hope this new offering will appeal to all our regular players as well as encouraging new people to try GalaBingo.com.”

PayPal has more than 15 million customer accounts in the UK, mainly due to its popularity as a payment method on auction site eBay, which acquired the payments company back in 2002 in a US$1.5bn deal.

The payments wallet has been slowly rebuilding its presence in the UK online gaming space from 2008, when it signed with Paddy Power, going on to ink deals with 888.com, PartyGaming, 32Red, PKR and Neovia the following year.

This followed a four-year hiatus from the sector after PayPal was withdrawn in 2002 by parent company eBay, the US government later alleging the payments company had violated the Patriot Act and the Wire Wager Act by knowingly transferring funds to offshore gambling sites. eBay paid the US government US$10m to settle the matter in 2003.
