New Betfair pro - Peter Eastgate
Betfair Poker has announced the signing of 2008 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event winner Peter Eastgate.
Eastgate, the youngest-ever Main Event winner, and fellow Danish high-stakes player Stefan Rattay will be used to promote the site in Denmark, where Betfair recently received an online poker licence. The pair will also participate in a Danish WSOP promotion where the site’s players will be given the chance to live and play in the same house as the pros during the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas in July, where Eastgate will first wear the Betfair patch.
London-based Eastgate, who signed with PokerStars ahead of winning over US$9m at the 2008 Main Event final table, announced his retirement from the game back in 2010, even selling his winner’s bracelet to raise US$147,000 for charity Unicef. The Dane however returned ten months later at the NBC Heads Up Championship last February.
Betfair Danish country manager Peter Weinreich said: ” We hope their expertise and popularity in the poker community will ensure a positive relationship for both parties”.
Betfair’s current stable of pros includes 2007 WSOP Europe Main Event runner-up John Tabatabai and Hans Vogel.
