Betfair has made a deal with Matchroom sport to sponsor the Prizefighter series of boxing matches that take place throughout the year in the UK in the form of six tournaments.
If you’re not familiar with the Betfair logo, you soon will be. The exclusive deal gives branding rights to Betfair for advertising across the ring, on the boxers and the card girls.
It isn’t just Betfair that will be benefiting from the deal. Their customers will be too. They’ll have exclusive access to in-depth analysis and fighter interviews on its editorial website and social media platforms. Not only that but Betfair sanctioned analysts will be on hand, ringside, at fights to give up-to-the-minute information on betting price movements.
If you watched the sold-out Light Welterweights II show in Wolverhampton on the 11th of February you will have already seen evidence of this new relationship between Betfair and the boxing series.
Betfair’s analysts were ringside, as promised, at the show which had Adil Anwar (from Leeds) beat Tyrone Nurse (from Huddersfield) to claim the Yorkshire title. Both men were undefeated starting the one-night tournament, so plenty of eyes were watching the match that aired on Sky Sports 1, HD 1 and in 3D. If you missed the show, no worries, you’ll be able to catch all of the action throughout the year as the tournaments meander their way across the UK.
The total prize pool for the fight is a whopping 96,000 GBP. The format is the same for each of the tournaments: Eight fighters, seven fights and one winner. Losers of the 3x 3 minute fight are thrown out of the tournament. And each tournament only lasts one evening.
