Everyone knows Facebook is the most incredibly successful social networking site on the planet. Most users know that in addition to updating their status, sending messages and “liking” what other people say, Facebook has deals with online gaming companies that allow registrants the opportunity to play via Facebook. So far, Facebook games are relatively simplistic, and involve tasks such as putting together a virtual farm.
However, due to the popularity of online casino gaming in the UK, facebook is looking to get a piece of the action. In addition to being a social network, it seems that it would like to add online casino to its repertoire.
The timeline for this endeavor is yet unknown, but it has been confirmed the company is in talks to with “several operators to open its platform to real-money gambling in the UK.”
These talks also go hand-in-hand with rumors that Facebook is going to go public in the spring of 2012 to raise $10 billion USD bringing the value of the company somewhere near the $100 billion dollar mark.
Sources who are privy to the talks claim the company has drawn up eight licenses for different gambling operators in the UK. Apparently, Gamesys and 888 are among the top in line for the deals.
In the upcoming weeks it’s very possible that we’ll be hearing more about the exact revenue models that will be used with the new real-cash gaming apps that Facebook intends to add. This is doubly true in light of Facebook needing to disclose its financial dealings for the purposes of being added to the New York Stock Exchange.
