A gang of axe-wielding robbers have stolen £10,000 from the Grosvenor Casino in Bolton.
At 7:40pm on Tuesday 3rd January, four masked men broke into the Grosvenor Casino on Ormrod Street in Bolton. Police reports state that one robber was armed with an axe, another with a machete and an axe and a third with a cosh. All were wearing balaclavas.
The gang threatened staff and collected the money in a matter of minutes before escaping on foot towards Ashburner Street.
Detective Inspector Andy Cuncliffe from Bolton CID commented: “These men intimidated staff with the weapons they carried and understandably, staff have been left extremely shaken by their ordeal”. He continued: “I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the robbery and saw something suspicious to contact police.”
Around 50 casino guests have given statements. One witness was blackjack player, Lawrence Holden, who described the incident: “two men ran up to the cash desk, one of them jumped straight over and the other hit the cash desk with an axe. Everyone just got up and moved to the back of the casino.”
The G Casino was closed on the evening of January 3rd after the robbery but opened again on Wednesday 4th January.
