Princes Casino in Monaco was scammed out of $64,000 recently in one of the most ingenious cheats in casino history. The group of Italian players marked cards using invisible ink and used special contact lenses to pull off the scam on the stud poker tables.
There is no knowing how many times the gang had managed to dupe casinos across Europe before they were finally caught out after staff at the Princes Monaco Casino grew suspicious at the groups’ lucky streak.
The Italian players had discreetly marked the cards using invisible ink which could be seen through the specially adapted contact lenses the players then wore. Suspicious were raised after the group won $44,000 playing stud poker, then returned to the same table a couple of nights later to walk off with another $20,000.
The cards were analysed to discover small markings made in the special ink to distinguish the high ranking cards. It is believed that a Frenchman who worked for the casino was helping the gang from the inside by sneaking the marked cards into the casino. He is already being held by police.
The Monaco Casino cheats face up to ten years in prison if found guilty of ‘committing fraud in an organised gang’. The gang deny all charges, with one of the Italians being said to not understand why he has been arrested.
